Sheoak stave drum shell, Hardness 7.1kN
Experience the perfect blend of visual artistry and versatile tone with this handcrafted Sheoak stave snare drum shell. Western Australian Sheoak (Allocasuarina fraseriana) is a premium medium-to-hard Australian timber renowned worldwide for its stunning, intricate grain. Its defining characteristic is the dramatic "ray flecking" or "lace-like" pattern that shines beautifully when finished, giving the shell an unmistakable, high-end aesthetic.
Medium-Hard Density: With a Janka hardness of approximately 7,100 N, Sheoak is harder than Maple but less dense than Jarrah, resulting in a unique and highly versatile sound.
Bright, Yet Mellow Tone: The shell produces a bright and lively sound with a focused attack, but its moderately dense character brings a pleasing warmth and articulate, smooth midrange. It offers excellent sensitivity for intricate rhythms and can be tuned to suit a wide range of musical styles, from crisp funk to mellow jazz, often compared favorably to the responsiveness of a high-quality Maple shell, but with more character.
The heartwood ranges from reddish-brown to rich dark red, perfectly offset by pale yellow sapwood, while the straight, fine grain is punctuated by the visually spectacular medullary rays.
Optimal Stave Construction: Built using the 30 solid stave method, this shell is stable and resonant, ensuring the full potential of Sheoak's unique sonic properties—excellent projection, focused sensitivity, and a musical decay—is delivered in every stroke.
